Security vs. Conversion – a classic conflict of priorities in Banking

On one side, the Product and Digital Banking teams required the process to be as simple as possible – every additional step reduced conversion rates. On the other, Risk, Compliance, and Security departments imposed verification requirements that could not be compromised. The existing model, based on contract signing with a courier, was costly, time-consuming, and increasingly incompatible with the expectations of mobile banking customers.

A solution capable of verifying identity document data and matching it against a selfie captured during the application process – simple and convenient for customers, yet robust and secure for the bank.

Integrating a Selfie verification component across 8 departments and 10+ systems

The proposed selfie-based verification solution proved to be a compromise acceptable to all stakeholders – simplifying the customer journey while meeting the bank’s security and compliance requirements.

Finture’s experience enabled the seamless integration of the selfie verification component into the bank’s complex environment, involving 8 departments, more than 100 integration services, and over 10 internal systems.

Following implementation, customers rapidly adopted the new onboarding journey – 30% of remote account opening applications are now completed using selfie-based identity verification. Eliminating the courier step entirely reduced the time from application submission to account opening to just 30 minutes, while simultaneously increasing the overall security of the process.
